Observed: 4-H Big E Dairy Goat Senior Fitting Class

For a 4-H dairy goat fitting class at the Eastern States Exposition, preparation means close clipping (without nicks or leaving clip marks), a thorough scrubbing of hooves, washing the udder, skin and tail. Stray hairs are snipped. Even socks were placed on some goats to ensure clean hooves stayed that way for the show ring.

The judge paid scrupulous attention to every aspect of the dairy goat and the handler, lifting feet to inspect each cloven hoof, running her hands over the smooth coat head to tail of the alert and trim animals. Then a fistful of bright ribbons came out and were awarded as the winner and placing 4-Hers were announced. The judge then gave helpful tips on just what she observed for this class.

In the 4-H Big E Dairy Goat Senior Fitting Class, Craig Kaeser of Connecticut won first prize. Amanda Bushey of Connecticut placed second; Kacey Reinholtz, third. Craig Kaeser was also later named champion fitter overall after additional classes. See division results below. Complete show results may also be seen on the 2011 Big E/Eastern States Exposition site.
