First Co. Governor’s Foot Guard Dog Show

More than 140 different dog breeds were represented from the U.S. and Canada converged at the 80th First Company Governor’s Foot Guard Athletic Association Dog Show and Obedience Trials in Hartford. Groomed to perfection and showing their impeccable conformation, the canines competed for best in show and breed prizes. AKC rules applied, including one under their general guidelines that “the well-being of the dogs, exhibitors and spectators is of paramount importance.”

The Elm City Kennel Club Inc. offered a special rosette to all dogs finishing the AKC requirements for a championship, obedience or rally title at this show.

This AKC-sanctioned all-breed obedience and junior showmanship event helps fund two scholarships given to pre-veterinary students at the University of Connecticut; one attending the School of Agriculture and another attending the School of Natural Resources. Show superintendent is MB-F, Inc. of Greensboro, NC, one of the premier dog show producers and managers in the country. Trophies are by Woodbury Pewter. From Boston terriers to pugs, Brittanys to St. Bernards, Great Danes, Newfoundlands and Samoyeds, here’s just a sampling of the wonderful dogs and people we met at the 2011 event. We missed the Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers, whippets, French bulldogs. (Yes, we are quite partial to Boston terriers and plan to attend the 2012 show.

Editor’s note: If we missed your breed or something is not exactly rightt, let us know at editorccb@gmail.com. Thanks! We enjoyed the show.
